In certain cases fees are imposed by the regulator. But usually an agreement on fees between the lawyer and his client can be fixed according to the benefit we will achieve for our clients. Charges are determined according to fee scales, rules of professional etiquette as well as professional experience, international exposure of the case, multilingual skills, specific know-how, risk and reputational exposure. Before assuming a mandate, we inform our client on how to structure the fees in a fair manner taking into account the results we can achieve. We try to adequate our fees to the benefit we want to achieve for our clients. If possible, we connect our fees to the result of a certain case. Sometimes, due to the nature of the case, it is not possible to bill according to the result and we have to agree an hourly rate. In certain legal cases we are obliged to follow Swiss rules and charge on a time-spent-basis. The hourly rate can be higher if a case has international ties, if multiligual knowledge is required, if specific law know-how is demanded and if the case containes specific risks or if there are reputational exposures, if immediate action is required during weekends, if the amounts in litigation are high. The hourly rates are between USD 350 and USD 550 according to the professional experience of our partners. Where ever possible, we try to agree a flat fee connected to a specific result or specific benefit.
